Company Background
F W McDowall Ltd was established in 1953 and is a family owned and
operated business dealing in both rural and freight cartage. We have 14
branches throughout New Zealand , in excess of 250 staff and approximately 130
trucks. Head Office is situated in Browns, which is approximately 30km from
Invercargill and 10km from Winton.
About the Positions Available
We have a number of job opportunities available in our Freight, Rural
and Contracting Divisions. These jobs are based at various McDowall branches
throughout New Zealand.

Freight Division
-
Linehaul involves transporting freight from one depot
to another on scheduled daily or night runs (i.e. Dunedin to Christchurch) with
unloading and loading requirements. A full heavy traffic licence would be
required plus Dangerous Goods licence.

Local Freight Delivery Drivers are required for local
delivery work in and around the metropolitan areas. You will need to have a
knowledge of loading and unloading of freight as well as a full heavy traffic
licence would be required plus Dangerous Goods licence.

Rural Division
-
Rural drivers are required. You will need to have
proven rural driving experience and hold a full heavy traffic licence.

Contracting Division
-
As an Agricultural Operator you will need to have
proven experience in the Agricultural contracting industry, this includes
making baleage, silage and ground spreading.

Workshops
-
As a Mechanic you will ensure the servicing of the
company fleet is completed with a high quality standard, in a timely and
efficient manner and prioritising when necessary.
To operate the appropriate vehicles the successful
applicants will need to have New Zealand driving licence equivalent of Class 5
for up to 44 tonne rating (includes truck & trailer) for Linehaul, Rural
and Local Freight Delivery jobs.

Position Reports to: BRANCH

Objective of the Position:
TO COMPLETE ALL DRIVING AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES AS REQUESTED IN AN EFFICIENT AND
PROFESSIONAL MANNER.
Requirements of the
Position:
-
Undertake Linehaul work using designated vehicle.
Interaction with clients using a courteous mannerism at all times.

Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner and
ensure the company Health & Safety Policy, Manual and Procedures are
complied with at all times.

General vehicle maintenance, including general
cleanliness to be undertaken as/when required.

Forklift operation and unloading/loading as required.

Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed
accurately and in a timely manner, including logbooks, consignment notes, wages
sheets.

Other general driving and associated duties as
required by the Branch Manager.
Position Description
LOCAL FREIGHT DELIVERY DRIVER
Reports To: BRANCH MANAGER
Objective of the Position: TO COMPLETE ALL DRIVING
AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES AS REQUESTED IN AN EFFICIENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER AS
REQUESTED BY BRANCH MANAGER.
Requirements of the Position:

vehicle. Interaction with clients using a courteous mannerism at all times.

Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner and
ensure the company Health & Safety Policy, Manual and Procedures are
complied with at all times.

General vehicle maintenance, including general
cleanliness to be undertaken as/when required.

Position Description
RURAL DRIVER
Position Reports to: BRANCH MANAGER
Objective of the Position: TO COMPLETE ALL DRIVING AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES AS
REQUESTED IN AN EFFICIENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER AS REQUESTED BY BRANCH
MANAGER.
Requirements of the Position:

General, bulk and/or livestock cartage using designated vehicle. Interaction
with clients / farmers using a courteous mannerism at all times.

Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner and ensure the company Health &
Safety Policy, Manual and Procedures are complied with at all times.

General vehicle maintenance, including general cleanliness to be undertaken
as/when required.
-
Drivers shall be required to be “on call” when the situation prevails, for
example workload, weather conditions etc, with extended hours as required by
the company.

Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner,
including logbooks, consignment notes, wages sheets.

Other general driving and associated duties as required by the Branch Manager.
Position Description
AGRICULTURAL OPERATOR
Position Reports To: OPERATIONS MANAGER
Objective of the Position: TO COMPLETE ALL AGRICULTURAL AND ASSOCIATED DUTIES AS
REQUESTED IN AN EFFICIENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER AS REQUESTED BY THE
OPERATIONS MANAGER.
Requirements of the Position:

General agricultural driving work using designated vehicle. Interaction with
clients / farmers using a courteous mannerism at all times.

Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner and ensure the company Health &
Safety Policy, Manual and Procedures are complied with at all times.

General vehicle maintenance, including general cleanliness to be undertaken
as/when required.

Position Description
WORKSHOP MECHANIC
Position Reports to: WORKSHOP MANAGER
Objective of the Position: TO ENSURE ALL SERVICING
CARRIED OUT ON THE COMPANY FLEET IS COMPLETED WITH A HIGH QUALITY STANDARD, IN
A TIMELY AND EFFICIENT MANNER, PRIORITISING WHEN NECESSARY WITH REFERRAL BACK
TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ON ANY CIRCUMSTANCES REQUIRING FURTHER
DISCUSSION/AUTHORISATION.
Requirements of the Position:
-
Undertake mechanic duties/tasks as required.
-
Ensure best utilisation of staff and resources.
-
Job cards to be initiated for all work performed,
completing all necessary details (i.e.; vehicles registration, actual hours
worked, work carried out, parts used) with work in progress (WIP) cards mark ed
accordingly.
-
Pre-costed work is to be completed within costings or
referred to the Workshop Manager as soon as likely extension known to be
required.
-
All purchase orders to be completed with appropriate
detail i.e.; vehicle registration, dollar value (if known – can be estimated),
quantities/description. Separate purchase orders must be used for South
Canterbury and Road Freight vehicles.
-
Ensure the workshop is kept tidy to a standard which
precludes any potential hazard risk.
-
Ensure all staff and workshop operations comply with
both company and OSH Health & Safety requirements, bringing any
potential/existing hazard to the notice of the Safety Committee. Service
division Health & Safety Manual is available in the workshop.
-
Any other workshop duties as instructed by the
Workshop Manager.
